Hesh gorgeous Shedua (Ovankol) from the Don. Same family as   Bubinga. Very excellant tonewood. I have a bunch of boards in my storage garage. Maybe I should send them to Don to cut. He seems to be fairing better than me. Bobc38994.7315046296

You know what Hesh....that stuff doesn't work very well at all, it dulls blades, is difficult to bend and doesn't sound very good either. To boot, it kind of smells bad. You better send that up across the boarder to me and I'll just get rid of it for ya.

Don't listen to Bob, what does he know about tonewoods (severely high level of sarcasm here )

It's an African wood...

Taylor guitars has been using Ovangkol for awhile now. It's a nice tonewood. Especially when it looks like those sets!Don Williams38994.8123842593

Yes, a good friend of mine has a Taylor 310 made out of Ovangkol (nothing resembling that gorgeous figure, though...). It makes for a very good sounding guitar.

Great score Hesh, ...again...

My jealousy level is at it's highest point, i should have known better than to look at this thread, there was a warning of incoming pics of zoot! I'll never check that again when warned!

Great score indeed Hesh! sigh!

Hesh are you trying to reform??? Does this mean you are going to give up zoot? I'm not one to support another's addiction, but this has me concerned.

Hesh, I thought you were well enough to get back in the shop -- whats with the "WAS" trigger finger

Very nice set Hesh! Do you have a particular style in mind for this set?Anthony Z38995.1581481481

Some Japanese makers have been using ovangkol for awhile. I once owned a Yairi OOO that was, I believe, made with ovangkol, and I liked it. Even the plainer stuff (which mine was) is nice looking.

Oh, and I forgot to add--it sounded a lot like mahogany with just a touch of rosewood darkness.CarltonM38995

See Hesh you shouldn't have moved to a bigger shop, because one of the laws of physics states that "WAS expands naturally to fill the space available for it". You're doomed!

Colin, i agree, the bigger your shop is, the most likely you're gonna turn into a tonewood seller!

Hesh, we're all doomed!

Yes, I've actually played a couple of one-off guitars made from Ovangkol, and they were outstanding. Like somebody said earlier, Taylor's been using the stuff for years and it makes a great sounding instrument.

I think you're honestly going to be stunned by how this turns out. You may have found a new favorite wood.
